What is running video analysis? How can a physical therapist use it to help you improve as a runner?

Every runner would like to run more efficiently, understand running better, and reduce their risk of injury. With running video analysis, our experienced physical therapist can help you do all of this, and more.

Most of the information gathered from runners during a typical running exam is considered “static” information. A therapist can measure such factors as joint angles, muscle flexibility, muscle strength, and balance, but the patient is not in the running motion. Thus, without slow motion video analysis, the therapist must envision or theorize as to what the patient’s running form might be.

At Liberty Physical Therapy, we provide a 2-Dimensional Slow Motion Video Analysis service that gives us a more accurate picture of a patient’s running form; this allows us to help them improve it and to better visualize physical deficiencies that may be affecting their ability to run comfortably and efficiently.

Having worked with Army soldiers of various running levels for almost 12 years, Tuan gained great experience in evaluating and rehabilitating numerous running injuries. He also obtained specialized training to perform physical therapy running exams and slow motion video analysis from Dr. Bryan Heiderscheit, Associate Professor in the Departments of Orthopedics & Rehabilitation and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
